The Pondering Absurdist

Harkening back to my second post upon my return to WordPress, which I ultimately deleted after an hour or two, I will state my opinion again here (as seen in the title above). It is well within my First Amendment Rights as a citizen of this country to criticize my government and its leaders, within limits, of course. As long as I don’t make any palpable threats or incite violence. I should be fine.

For months before the election last November, the proverbial bile was rising in my throat at the thought of a repeat Trump presidency. I was honestly under the illusion that there was no way in the world that it could happen, based on the shitshow from 2016 to 2020. I thought his bid at re-election would be seen as a joke by the majority, and that reason and my misguided faith in my fellow Americans would win out. Was I ever shocked and stunned on the morning of November 6 when I awoke to the news that Kamala Harris had lost the election to the returning Idiot-in-Chief. After that I could not keep my ire to myself. Not having a huge circle of friends to commiserate with, I could only talk “in the real world” with my coworkers. Unfortunately I work in an office where 90% of my coworkers are conservatives. There are only two others who I feel comfortable with sharing my disdain openly, because at least one of them does the same (the other is a bit more “closed mouth” about things). Consequently I turned my inner rage toward the rednecks online who were openly touting that they had “won” the election. For days after the election I would go on the threads app and (in a childish manner, I suppose) taunt the ignorant rednecks who posted. It might not be very mature of me, but I think it did help to alleviate some of my inner angst about the next four years of my life, living in a country where the government is hostile toward everything I believe in. It’s unfortunate, but apparently I eventually said something online that got someone’s panties in a bunch, because within a couple of weeks I was banned from the Instagram platforms (including threads). I deleted my other social media (facebook) profile at the same time, simply out of spite and for my own mental health. I figured that I would do any further ranting on a platform I could control, so I’ve kept any online presence interacting with others to this blog.

Back to the main topic. The leader of this country, one of the nine countries in the world with nuclear weapons, is clearly an idiot, and that is a scary thought. I’m not sure if he is making his own irrational decisions and implementing them at will, or if he’s even discussing his bullshit agendas with others in his team of bullies. Considering his age, he could legitimately be experiencing the early signs of dementia or senility. My father’s last years were rife with dementia, so I speak from a position of experience. People with dementia DO make irrational decisions, and carry them out. That’s pretty scary when one has the “nuclear football” available to them at a moment’s notice. Unfortunately, if something were to happen to the orange-haired buffoon in office, or if he were to step aside for the greater good (yeah, like that would ever happen… with the one who supposedly wants at least one more term in office after this one), the next person in line is not a much better choice. Vance has shown himself to be a member in good standing of the camp of idiots.

Why, of ALL the people in the world, did DJT have to pick on our neighbors? Canada is known internationally as home to some of the nicest people in the world. These people live in a huge country that’s full of natural resources, beautiful national parks and forests, and they typically wouldn’t hurt the proverbial mouse. They are not known as a country who starts wars, but they have been a good ally to many who fought on the “right” side of a war. Many people have poked fun at their Mounties, who ride horses while wearing funny hats, and the way some Canadians speak, with their “aboot” accents, yet the Canadians just laugh along and take it all in stride, not being easily offended. They have been a friend to their neighbors south of the border for many decades. And yet… the dog in the big white office to their south has chosen to turn around and bite the Canadians. Why? If this radical, unfriendly, isolationist fool in the highest office of our country keeps up what he’s been doing, America and its people will soon be seen on the world stage as a country worse than Russia, who invaded and is killing innocent civilians in a country to their south, all in the purpose of a land grab. Some of the rhetoric coming out of the oval office these days, i.e. “Canada will be the 51st State,” is just as inflammatory as what Russia was saying at the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. Is this what all the rednecks who voted the guy back into office really wanted? To piss off the world and isolate themselves even further from the rest of the human race?

I have watched the videos from the Prime Minister of Canada, and the Premier of British Columbia in response to Trumps edict of 25% tariffs against Canada and Mexico. Canada is not going to just roll over and take this lying down. I ask all of you who thought you were doing “the right thing” by putting that convicted criminal back into the Presidency of the United States to do one thing… start looking at all the labels on the products you buy. Granted, the majority of them will say “Made in China”… but a lot more of them these days are saying “Made in Canada” or “Hecho en Mexico.” Every one of those products will become at least 25% more expensive for YOU to buy. That is, if the products are even still available for purchase. Why? Because of the stupid tariffs that YOUR President just imposed on those two countries. So who do the tariffs hurt? Initially they will sting a little bit to the Canadians and Mexicans, but any products produced by those countries that you normally buy and use will ultimately impact YOU and YOUR wallet. Will they hurt Trump and his cronies? Not in the slightest. That’s the way government works. Shit rolls downhill, and YOU, my fellow Americans are at the bottom of the dung heap.

The Prime Minister and Premiers of all the Provinces of Canada had an emergency meeting to discuss what happened due to Trump’s bullshit agenda. They unanimously agreed to bite the dog back, and will be imposing their own 25% tariffs on American made products. In addition, some American products, like liquor, have been outright banned for sale in parts of Canada now, with suggestions to buy Canadian made products instead. Who does Canada currently buy a substantial number of automobiles from? That’s right, America. What will happen with a 25% tariff on auto imports to Canada from the US? A lot of you Trump supporters who work in the auto industry will lose your jobs because Canada won’t be buying your shitty cars. Again, who will it hurt? YOU, my fellow Americans at the bottom of the outhouse trying to dig your way out. Will it hurt Trump or his ilk? Again, no.

I haven’t even focused on Mexico here at all, but I’m sure that similar things will happen with the products we import from Mexico. Do Canada or Mexico need the United States to survive? Ultimately, no. They might initially suffer a bit until they make new, more rational trading partners in other countries, but ultimately they will be just fine. So, the average Canadian might now drive a Volvo or a Subaru instead of the Chevrolet that their family has been used to driving. It will still get them to the local movie theater or grocery store, but the Americans won’t be gaining anything. Instead they will be sitting at home, unemployed, wishing they had given a second thought before placing their ballot in the box on November 5 with all the other lemmings. And who will they blame for their misfortune? The government, and the very Idiot that they voted into office.

I said it before the election, and I’ll say it again now. Trump, and all those who voted for him, are idiots. Instead of making this country a better, more progressive and accepting society, YOU (conservatives) have sent us back in time… a time to when fascism was prevalent, the term “human rights” hadn’t even been invented yet, and women and people of color were second-class citizens, or worse. You get what you pay for, and YOU paid for it with your vote for the new Idiot-In-Chief.

Once again, ashamed to be an American. I see this coming as a trend over the next four years.
