The Pondering Absurdist

In one of my early posts I stated something about not wanting to focus a lot of my blogs on politics, because they can lead to arguing and divisiveness. However, in the harsh political environment these days, not only in the country I’m from (the U.S. of A.), but also in several other countries now, due to some of the actions and stupidity of the leaders of countries like “the one I live in” (I hesitate to call it “mine” anymore, as the leadership no longer represents my opinions or values, and there is unfortunately not much I can do about it), or other “big bully” countries like Russia and China… how can one sit back idly and not express their opinion about the $hitstorm that is the world stage these days?

There have been many times when I’ve thought about sitting down and expressing my opinion after seeing one or another little snippet of news, or hearing about something that happened from one of my coworkers, but then I (thankfully) became occupied with other things that are more important in my life. Since that dreadful day (Nov. 5, 2024, a mere 383 days ago), I have intentionally avoided reading or listening to any news. It’s not that I don’t care about the world (in fact, I do), it’s that reading or hearing any mention about DJT or his cronies and their stupidity actually raises my blood pressure, and I just don’t need that. Since I work on a computer all day, moving my mouse around the screen in AutoCAD, occasionally the cursor passes over that portion of the taskbar that pops up the weather, the stock market, and multiple “news” stories, and I can’t help but seeing the click-bait for those stories now and then. Some of them seem so outrageous that my curiosity gets the best of me and I end up clicking on the story to see WTH is going on. During the years 2016-2020 I tried to do the same, avoiding as much news as possible. This time (only one year into DJT’s idiocy, I mean presidency), however, it seems much worse. I don’t know if it’s that I’m getting older and more opinionated, or if DJT is just becoming more reckless with what used to be the most powerful (and democratic) country in the world.

Yesterday’s click-bait included a story about the “peace treaty” being forced into President Zelenskyy’s lap, and how the plan was prepared solely by the US and Russia (i.e. DJT and Putin). The leaders of the European Union, who all live and work intimately closer to both Russia and Ukraine, were just left standing in the corner shouting “hey, what about us?” First of all, WTF does the US (DJT) have any business doing sticking their nose in a “peace treaty” between two other sovereign countries located halfway around the world? Sure, the U.S. of A. can offer advice and provide support as needed, but dictating the terms of the treaty? That is just bullshit. Some of the terms of the treaty, like conceding land to Russia, is NONE of OUR BUSINESS! What happened to being an ally to Ukraine and supporting them in their time of need (during this invasion from Russia that has killed hundreds of thousands of men, women and children needlessly since Russia first invaded Crimea at the beginning of 2014)? What the U.S. of A. and its NATO counterparts really should be doing (or actually should have done a long time ago) is telling Russia to back the “eff” off and get back into their own country where they belong, then backing it up with action, not just words. Honestly, I think that President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people should stick to their resolve of not ceding ANY land (including the Crimean Peninsula) to Russia. I know that they are in a tough spot with the bully on their border constantly attacking and killing their people, but bullies (both in the world, as in daily life) need to be taught a lesson, and that doesn’t include “giving in” to them. I just wish that more countries (the one I live in included, as well as other powerful NATO countries) would put more (action-oriented) pressure on Russia to back off.

The other story I clicked on yesterday (again involving DJT and his Republican ilk) was about how Nazi symbolism is being downgraded by our government from “hateful” to “potentially divisive.” This followed by the fact that an FBI agent was fired for displaying a (gay) “Pride” flag. Again, WTF?? Our “civilization” in the U.S. of A. seems to be REgressing instead of PROgressing. Imagine my (lack of) surprise when I read that one. Before the fateful day mentioned above, I voiced my prediction several times that the country would regress back in time about 50 years or so if DJT was elected. It certainly seems to have happened. Is it any wonder that I want to avoid the news and just barricade myself inside my home with my cats?

Another amusing (definitely NOT amusing, actually quite sad…) story to read is the ongoing “feud” between DJT and Jimmy Kimmel. With all the $hit going on in the world right now, doesn’t DJT have anything better to do than threaten the livelihood of a (frankly, quite talented) entertainer on television? And then threaten to “take ABC off the air?” Really? Donny… pay attention to YOUR (current) job, and try to make this country a better place instead of a constant pissing match between political parties.

Speaking of pissing matches between political parties, DJT repeatedly attacked Kamala Harris regarding her intelligence preceding the election. He has asserted that his own IQ is exceptionally high. And yet, the “man” continually throws out insults toward anyone who doesn’t agree with him. He recently responded to a female news reporter, who asked him a question that he didn’t like, with “quiet, Piggy.” Earlier in the year, instead of showing respect to a fellow politician, he referred to the Governor of California as “Gavin Newscum.” The “man” clearly has the emotional IQ of a seventh-grader, regardless of how high he thinks his IQ might be. Unfortunately his voter base seems to be in a similar position. Remember back… right after the election… when all the rednecks across the country started chanting “your body, my choice” to all the women in their lives? Rather than trying to work together to make this country a better place, the Republicans seem to repeatedly try to make it more divisive (i.e. worse). I have said this to myself many times, but I am just now putting my opinion “out there” for all the world (or the two people who read this blog) to see… I would be willing to wager a fair amount of money that if we took a random sampling of 100 (or 1000, or whatever number makes you happy) “Trump voters” and place them in a room with the same number of randomly sampled Democrats, then give them all a standardized IQ test (MENSA, any interest?), the Democrats would come out on top by a fair to large margin. Democrats just seem to care more about other human beings, cultures, animals, and the environment. (at least) To me, that just seems to be a bit more intelligent than riding around town in a big-ass, gas-guzzling Ford pickup truck with huge American flags waving from the bed of the truck, persecuting women and those of other races and sexual identities (methinks thou might protest too much), and denying that such a thing as “global warming” exists, while trying to force their religious beliefs in a “god” (that has no tangible, scientific proof of existence) on others. Hell, I would put my own “uneducated” (no college degree) intelligence up against DJT’s in an IQ test ANY day of the week.

And tariffs?… don’t get me started…

Don’t we have enough evidence yet (mental incompetence? racism? misogyny? or other things that might come out of his association with Epstein?) to impeach this buffoon and get on with trying to improve the country? It’s too bad that this convicted criminal now serving as our “leader” will probably never serve his sentence.
