The Pondering Absurdist

When humans, as some humans are wont to do, attempt to “talk” with their feline friends by mimicking, in what they think is an appropriate cat voice, the word “meoooww”… do said cats understand what the human is saying? Or is the human saying “tree” in cat language when the cat is asking “food?” Or is it so far removed from an actual cat’s meow that it just sounds like incomprehensible noises coming out of their human’s mouth and they have no understanding at all? I do really ponder this as I meow with my cats at meal time.
