… my apologies in advance. I know that blogging is a worldwide experience. My statistics show me that most of my blog views have come from other countries (Germany and Canada, thus far). When writing (blogs, books, what have you), I’m sure that most of us pull from our own specific frame of reference. For me, that is a human male (he/him if personal pronouns matter to anyone) who was raised in the United States of America. As a child of the 1960s in America, I was raised in an era when the Cold War was still very much at the forefront of everyone’s mind (some people really did have bomb shelters in their back yards), when racism and bigotry were ever present (sadly, they still exist today), one could not go anywhere without breathing in the cigarette smoke of others, and men in offices gave the women secretaries a pat on the butt when they walked by. Though situated in Manhattan and not representative of the entire country, the cable TV series Mad Men is a fair example of life during the times. There isn’t much focus on politics, but it’s a good representation of people and how they interacted, as well as the home and office environments. While I have traveled to several different countries in my lifetime, the majority of my life has been spent in America. Therefore, a lot of my writing will be based on that frame of reference. My next blog post will be just that, based on something very American, but that still has ties to the world community (and beyond).
